Year 1
Welcome to Year 1!
Your teachers this year are Miss Haynes, Miss Cummings and Miss Pattison and they are supported by Mrs Hubbard, Mrs Watras, Mrs Cantwell and Mrs Oliver.
Our topic this term is 'The Seaside'.
We have been comparing seaside holidays from 100 years ago and seaside holidays today. We were amazed by how different they were! We have also enjoyed sharing our own experiences of visiting the seaside. We really enjoyed our seaside day where 'History Off the Page' visited. On the day, we had a hands on experience of a range of seaside artefacts and memorabilia from the past. We also had a making session where we learnt about the different types of ‘amusements’ which were popular in the past. In the afternoon we visited the ‘pier’ and watched a Punch & Judy show. Thank you to all of the mums, dads and nans who gave up their time to help us for the day. We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did.
We are looking forward to visiting a real seaside after half term!
We are also learning about plants in science where we have planted our own seeds. We have enjoyed planting plants in our outside classroom-we hope you enjoy watching them grow as much as we do! Please continue to help your child to grow and care for plants at home.
The Phonics Screening Check will soon be upon us. Please continue to practise reading real and nonsense words with your child. Please see our links below or ask your child's teacher for any further advice.
Look what we've been up to:
Growing Plants: We are enjoying learning about plants in science and have planted our own sunflower seeds. We have placed them in a sunny spot and are looking forward to watching them grow. We will keep a seed diary to monitor how they grow. We also wrote our own instructions in literacy explaining how to grow a seed.
