Curriculum
Intention
Our curriculum upholds the central value that Christ is at the heart of what we teach and everything we do. We want our pupils to be curious about the world in which they live and strive to make it a better place.
Our pupils leave St Thomas’ with values that enable them to make a positive and vital contribution to society, resilient to the challenges they may face and inclusive of those they meet.
When we ask them about their dreams and aspirations, we want them to reflect that being a good person with a strong moral compass is the most important gift you can give yourself.
Implementation
We learn, achieve and love following Jesus.
Our Catholic faith is a thread evident throughout our school and embedded within our curriculum. Subjects are bespoke and designed with an integrated approach across relevant subject areas, carefully aligned with the National Curriculum. They are supported by high quality texts, with an emphasis on oracy through drama and speech. Some subjects delivery is implemented through schemed approaches. We endeavour to develop mastery in mathematics through White Rose Maths. Topics are constantly reviewed to ensure they are current and reflective of our school community.
Alongside the core curriculum offer, we deliver a bespoke life-skills curriculum for SEND pupils. EYFS is focused on working collaboratively with parents in a play-based, experiential learning environment.
We provide an extensive enrichment curriculum; Creative and sporting opportunities are rich and our extra-curricular provision ensures pupil interests are catered for.
Impact
The children of St. Thomas of Canterbury love coming to school and will happily talk to visitors about their learning. They are passionate about living out our school Mission Statement and demonstrate this in all that they do. Pupils engage with all lessons and there is an overwhelming culture of respect within the school.
Parents are very supportive and actively participate in the learning journey of their child. Our children thrive academically and spiritually, proud of their personal achievements.
As a result of our enriched curriculum offer, outcomes for pupils are consistently above national averages by the time pupils leave the school in Year Six.
