What is the Jubilee Year? 

 

In the Catholic Church, a Jubilee is a special year of forgiveness and reconciliation, which is celebrated every 25 years. 

The theme of this Jubilee Year is ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. Pope Francis has invited Catholics to renew our hope and discover a vision that can ‘restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone’. 

The Jubilee Year began on 24th December 2024 with the opening of ‘Holy doors’, including one at St Peter’s Basilica. It will end on 6th January 2025, with the closing of the same ‘Holy door’.
